The government will import three lakh tonnes of wheat from Russia at a cost of Tk 1,032.90 crore.
Bangladesh may sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Russia soon to import some food items as those were offered at competitive prices, said Senior Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh yesterday.
LDCs are predominantly agricultural economies, but are also highly dependent on food imports.
The government is going to double the amount of food grains it planned to import a few months ago amid high rice prices, fast depleting stocks and a flood ravaging crop fields in the north.
