High prices buoy hybrid rice cultivation

Farmers are showing interest to use more of their lands to cultivate hybrid rice, encouraged by an increase in domestic market prices, said seed sellers yesterday. 

Rice production to decline marginally

Bangladesh’s rice production may decline in marketing year (MY) 2022-23, which began in May, as severe floods damaged pre-monsoon crop Aus in the north and northeastern regions during planting, said a USDA report released on Monday. 

Brickfield Beside Cultivable Lands / Emission of hot air damages Boro fields

Standing Boro paddies on at least 16 acres of land were completely damaged due to the emission of excessive heat and hot air from a nearby brick kiln in Mirzapur upazila.

Good yield of Boro likely

Farmers in most parts of the country have started harvesting Boro paddy with high hopes of getting a better price this season.
