Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh withdrew its boycott late last night following a meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board officials, opening the door for the Bangladesh Premier League to resume from today after a day of disruption triggered by a standoff between players and board.

Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) said on Thursday night that players will return to the field if Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director M Najmul Islam apologises and the process regarding his directorship continues.

Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul weighed in on the ongoing controversy over Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director M Najmul Islam, criticing him for his “insulting remarks” about cricketers and said the board will take appropriate action against him.

BCB director and media committee chairman Amzad Hossain told The Daily Star that the fate of the tournament now hinges on whether teams appear for the second match of the Dhaka phase after the opening fixture could not be held.

Until further notice, BCB boss Bulbul will serve as the acting chairman of the finance committee.

According to BCB president Nazmul Hassan, players going on a sudden strike might have been a part of a conspiracy to destabilize Bangladesh cricket.
