Anuswar Theatre is bringing back its acclaimed production “Mahashunye Cycle” with a fresh run at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mohila Samity, a year after its stage debut. The play will be performed seven times over four consecutive days, from December 24 to 27.
Based on Arthur Miller’s “The Price”, the play has been adapted into Bangla by Asit Mukhopadhyay, with transformation and direction by Mohammad Bari. “Mulyo Amulyo” explores the steep emotional cost of eroding family bonds in the face of a profit-driven state, a fragmented society, and the relentless march of market capitalism.
Drawing inspiration from Taufiq al-Hakim’s Egyptian theatre and stories by Khalil Gibran, the production critiques the political machinery behind modern-day wars.
The capital's theatre community has come together to support flood victims, with troupes such as Ethic, BotTola, and Anuswar deciding to donate the proceeds from their performances to aid those affected by the disaster.
