Stern action against those misappropriating essential commodities: commerce minister
The government today warned of stern action against anybody found to be involved in misappropriating essential commodities sold by the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said this in a statement today.
The commerce ministry statement also said eight mobile teams have been monitoring the truck sales of basic commodities by the TCB in Dhaka to prevent the pilferage of goods.
The TCB has been selling the basic commodities at fair prices at 90 spots in Dhaka and 30 spots in Chattogram, according to the statement.
The TCB sales programme is also available in districts and upazila levels across the country so that people can buy the items at lower prices.
TCB started selling some basic commodities including edible oil, sugar, grams, lentils and onion at fair prices at 400 spots across the country ahead of the month of Ramadan.
The government strengthened the TCB sales of the basic commodities as a section of unscrupulous traders hike prices of widely consumed basic commodities on the onset of Ramadan as the demand for those goods soar during this time.
