Where can Bangladeshi women report violence?
According to the Violence Against Women Survey 2024, conducted by BBS and UNFPA, even though three in every four women in Bangladesh -- 76 percent -- face intimate partner violence, shockingly one in two women -- 51.5 percent -- still does not know where to report it.
Awareness is slightly higher in urban areas at 50.7 percent compared to 47.5 percent in rural areas.
The survey, launched in October and based on interviews with 27,476 women aged 15 and above, is the third national study after 2011 and 2015.
In today's Star Explains, marking International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we want to understand why this awareness gap remains so severe and where women can actually turn for help.
