Shakib's controversial dismissal leaves Tigers three down

Bangladesh went from 73 for one to 73 for three in two deliveries as skipper Shakib Al Hasan was controversially given out following Soumya Sarkar's departure.

Shakib danced down the wicket and tried to flick one against Shadab Khan, who had Soumya caught off the previous ball. The ball struck Shakib's leg even as he came down more than three metres. The umpire, after a long look, raised his finger but Shakib immediately took a review.

Even as the replays suggested Shakib had a tiny edge on to the bat before the ball hit his pads, the on-field umpire's decision was stayed. the Bangladesh skipper, dumbfounded, spoke to the umpires twice before dragging himself off the ground.

It all came after Bangladesh had made a brisk start, reaching 70 for the loss of Liton Das in their winner-takes-all encounter of the T20 World Cup against Pakistan in Adelaide on Sunday.

Having won the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first with three changes. One of those incomers, Soumya Sarkar, was called into action early as man-in-form Liton fell cheaply. The right-hander, who scored 60 off 27 against India in their previous match, fell for 10 off eight balls against Shaheen Afridi.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Soumya, however, made sure there were no more casualties half-way through the innings. Although Shanto survived a couple of dropped chances, the left-hander reached 41 off 37 with Soumya on 18 off 15 at half-way mark.

The winners of this game will qualify for the semifinals.
