Tucker out after becoming ninth No.7 batter to score ton on Test debut
Ireland wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker joins a long list of cricketers who managed to score a century on Test debut as Ireland continue to stage an exceptional turnaround against Bangladesh in the third day of the one-off Test in Mirpur today.
However, Tucker was dismissed by Ebadot Hossain soon after he had hit triple digits. Courtesy of Tucker's 108 off 162 balls and his 111-run stand with Andy McBrine, still unbeaten on 43 off 78, Ireland are 234 for seven and lead by 79 runs.
By becoming the 112th batter who scored a Test century on debut, Tucker is also the ninth cricketer in history to achieve the feat as a number seven batter. Moreover, this is the first instance at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium where a Test debutant went on to hit three figures.
This is Tucker's first-ever international century after having played 35 ODIs and 52 T20Is and the right-hander became the second Irish Test batter to score a century after Kevin O'Brien scaled the feat against Pakistan in 2018.
Ireland began today's proceedings at 27 for four before Tucker came at the crease at 51 for five.
Earlier, Bangladesh amassed 369 in reply of Ireland's first-innings total of 214.
