BKSP sweep aside Zone-2 to claim women’s hockey title
BKSP wrapped up the BRAC Bank Oporajeo Alo Women's Hockey Tournament in style, thrashing Zone-2 (Dhaka and Mymensingh) 8-0 in the final at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday.
The month-long competition brought together 19 teams, 352 players and 47 matches, making it one of the biggest tournaments ever held for women's hockey in the country.
BKSP were the standout side throughout, with Arpita Pal finishing as the tournament's top scorer and Airin Akter Riya picking up the player of the tournament award.
There was recognition for players outside BKSP too. Fardiya Akter Ratri was named player of the final, Mohua claimed the best goalkeeper award, and Apurbo Akter was chosen as the rising star.
The tournament has also opened doors for the future, with 25 players selected for advanced training from mid-January as preparations begin for the Asian Games qualifiers.
