Time to show the class: Jayawardene joins war of words
Sri Lanka great Mahela Jayawardene has urged the Lankan bowlers to 'show their class' in their Asia Cup encounter against Bangladesh in Dubai today and, in the process, disprove Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud Sujon.
"I don't see a single [world class] bowler in Sri Lankan side," Sujon said during a press conference on Wednesday.
Jayawardene took to Twitter and posted the following today, with aforementioned Sujon's words embedded:
"Looks like it's time for @Official SLC bowlers to show the class and batters to show who they are on the field #AsiaCup2022," Mahela Jayawardene twitted.
Sujon's comment, in fact, was triggered by what Sri Lanka captain, Dasun Shanaka, said previously.
"Other than these two cricketers [Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman], they do not have any more world-class bowlers in their squad," said Shanaka after Sri Lanka lost their tournament opener against Afghanistan on Saturday.
Before Mahmud decided to engage in the verbal war between the two sides, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who is yet to feature in this Asia Cup, replied to the Lankan captain.
"Which side is better will be proven on the field," said Miraz.
