New president Bulu vows to bring back Mohammedan's past glory
Newly elected president of Mohammedan Sporting Club, Barkat Ullah Bulu, MP, has vowed to restore the past glory of the Black and Whites by ensuring proper and honest management of the club’s activities.
Bulu, a lawmaker from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was elected president along with 16 directors unopposed at the club’s fourth annual general meeting (AGM) held at Dhaka Club on Monday.
“I think a club cannot be run by money alone; it also requires proper leadership. As the president of Mohammedan, I want to assure everyone that we will administer the club honestly and in the right way in order to bring back its past glory -- a time when supporters queued up outside stadiums to watch Mohammedan’s matches,” Bulu said in his welcome speech during the AGM.
Bulu also emphasised the need to utilise the club’s land in Savar and Motijheel to overcome financial challenges in the future.
“To realise the dream of Mohammedan, we want to make use of the club’s 25 acres of land in Savar and six bighas of land in Motijheel. If we can do that properly, the club will not need donations from anyone to run its activities,” he added.
At the first meeting of the newly elected board of directors following the AGM, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan was appointed director in charge of administration, while Mahabub Ul Anam and Mostakur Rahman were named as director of finance and director of sports respectively.
The meeting also distributed responsibilities among other directors by appointing them as heads of different committees.
Mostafa Kamal was named chairman of the football committee, with Abul Kamal MP, MA Salam and Mirza Yeasir serving as vice-chairmen. Meanwhile, Masuduzzaman, Sajed AA Adel and Nilufar Chowdhury Mony were appointed chairpersons of the cricket committee, hockey committee and women’s wing respectively.
