Messi inspires Argentina to 6-0 rout of Puerto Rico

Lionel Messi produced a masterful display with two assists as world champions Argentina cruised to a 6-0 win over Puerto Rico in a friendly at Inter Miami's DRV PNK Stadium on Tuesday night.
The match was originally scheduled for Monday in Chicago but was moved to Miami due to what organisers cited as either low ticket sales or an immigration crackdown in the city.
Playing on his MLS home ground, Messi set up Gonzalo Montiel with a deft lob for Argentina's second goal before a clever back pass allowed Lautaro Martínez to complete his brace in the 83rd minute.
Alexis Mac Allister scored twice, while an own goal from Puerto Rico added to the tally in a one-sided affair. The victory followed Argentina's 1-0 win over Venezuela in Miami last week, a match Messi sat out.
"Yesterday I asked him if he was ready to play, and he said yes. It's always a joy for us," said coach Lionel Scaloni, praising his captain's readiness and leadership.
Puerto Rico, ranked 155th in the world, fielded several college players but showed moments of spirit. Goalkeeper Sebastian Cutler, who plays for Villanova University, denied Messi twice in the second half, while Leandro Antonetti nearly stunned Argentina with a long-range attempt early on.
The game was part of Argentina's preparations for next year's World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, as they continue fine-tuning under Scaloni ahead of their title defence.
