India name Australia-born footballer for Bangladesh tie
India have named Australia-born footballer Ryan Williams in their 23-member squad for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers match against Bangladesh set to take place in Dhaka on November 18.
Ryan recently gave up his Australian passport to take Indian nationality, but his participation in the match will depend on receiving a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from Football Australia, followed by approval from FIFA and the AFC.
The 32-year-old plays for Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League. He has previously played for English clubs Fulham, Portsmouth and Burnley.
Both Bangladesh and India are already out of the Asian Cup qualifiers, making this match a matter of pride for both sides.
The Indian team is set to arrive in Dhaka on Saturday.
The first leg match between the sides had ended in a 0-0 draw in Kolkata on March 25 earlier this year.
