'Hattrick' Harry eyes Ronaldo’s 100-goal record
Harry Kane has made a habit of rewriting record books since joining Bayern Munich, and the English striker now stands on the brink of eclipsing one set by Cristiano Ronaldo over a decade ago.
Kane bagged his second Bundesliga hattrick of the season -- and ninth overall for Bayern -- in a 4-1 demolition of Hoffenheim on Saturday. The treble lifted his tally to 98 goals and 29 assists in just 103 games across all competitions for the Bavarians.
That prolific return has him on course to become the fastest player to 100 goals for a single club. The benchmark is jointly held by Ronaldo, during his Real Madrid days, and Manchester City's Erling Haaland, both of whom reached the century mark in 105 games. Kane now has the chance to surpass them when Bayern face Werder Bremen next Friday.
The start to this season has been nothing short of electric for the 31-year-old, who already has 13 goals in seven appearances across competitions, averaging a goal contribution every 37.5 minutes. His latest hattrick even earned him a nickname from German broadcaster DAZN, whose commentator dubbed him "Hattrick Kane." The striker smiled at the moniker post-match, recalling: "Hattrick Harry is what they used to call me in school when I was younger."
Kane's Bayern numbers are staggering when stacked against club greats. He had already smashed another record earlier in this season when he became the player to score the most goals –- 91 –- for Bayern in his first 100 games, a record that leaves legends like Gerd Mueller (68) and Robert Lewandowski (70) trailing far behind. Dutch forward Roy Makaay, with 72, sits closest, yet still well short of the Englishman's remarkable tally.
