Cabrera finds one positive in 4-0 defeat to Lebanon

Bangladesh coach Javier Cabrera has found one positive in the team's 4-0 defeat against Lebanon in Qatar on Tuesday in what was the last World Cup Qualifier fixture for the Men in Red and Green.

Though Cabrera had hoped of securing at least one point against Lebanon to end their campaign on a high, his charges were given a massive drubbing by Lebanon which resulted in a bottom-place finish in Group I with one point from six matches.

The result also extended Bangladesh's winless journey in the group stage of World Cup Qualifiers to 23 years.

"The positive today was the way we had possession of the ball which is a good thing. But it was difficult as we made mistakes in the first half and without being able to score from the chances we had. In the end  it was difficult to compete against Lebanon," Cabrera said in a video message sent by Bangladesh Football Federation.

The 39-year-old coach, however, termed the outcome of the match as a disappointing one.

"We came into the match with a lot of expectations. It was a tough result, again a disappointing one because we were convinced that we could have achieved something important in front of many Bangladeshi supporters," said the Spaniard.

"Things started very complicated with the penalty. We still managed the first half quite well but disconnected in the added time of the first half that made us 2-0 down.

"Still we made adjustments in the second half and pushed the opponents a bit but the counter attacks killed us," the coach opined.
