Bangladesh start without Shamit, Fahamedul against Hong Kong, China

Midfielder Shamit Shome and forward Fahamedul Islam have been kept out of the starting eleven for the Bangladesh side in the 2026 Asian Cup Qualifying match against Hong Kong, China today, confirmed a source within the team.
The match will kick off at 8 pm at the National Stadium in Dhaka, with spectators gradually turning up to make the arena a full house.

Hamza Choudhury will lead the midfield along with Sohel Rana Sr, Sohel Rana Jr and Sheikh Morsalin, while Tariq Raihan Kazi, Shakil Ahad Topu, Saad Uddin and Taj Uddin are the back four, and Rakib Hossain and Faisal Ahmed Fahim will be playing up front.
Spanish coach Javier Cabrera yesterday hinted that Canada-based Shamit would be under scan following his long journey and only one session of training with the squad, while Italy-based Fahamedul is expected to be dropped for his 4-4-2 formation plan against Hong Kong, China.
Cabrera had sweated over the finalisation of the 23-member squad till this morning, as five players – Syed Kirmane, Mehedi Hasan, Pappu Hossain, Zahid Hossain Shanto and Al Amin -- were finally dropped from the 23-member final squad.
Bangladesh playing XI: Mitul Marma (goalkeeper), Tariq Raihan Kazi, Shakil Ahad Topu, Taj Uddin, Saad Uddin, Hamza Choudhury, Sheikh Morsalin, Sohel Rana Sr, Sohel Rana Jr, Rakib Hossain and Faisal Ahmed Fahim.
