Argentina's Enzo shows classy gesture as he hands penalty to Brazil’s Estevao

Enzo Fernandez bears the responsibility of wearing the Chelsea armband whenever club captain Reece James is not playing. The Argentina international wears his heart on his sleeve and leads by example with his desire and performances on the pitch. And on Thursday, he presented a wholesome gesture to the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge when he sacrificed the chance to double his goal tally after the Blues were awarded a second penalty during their 5-1 demolition of Ajax in a Champions League group-stage fixture.
Enzo showed his supportive side and put out an example of selfless leadership when he handed the ball to Brazil's newest sensation and superstar in the making, Estevao Willian. It was the 18-year-old Estevao who had actually won the penalty after being fouled by Youri Baas inside the box deep into first-half stoppage time. Enzo, who had scored from the spot just six minutes earlier, had every right to take the kick again as the team's designated penalty-taker in the absence of Cole Palmer. Instead, with a hug and a kiss on the cheek, he passed it on to Estevao, who was yet to open his account in the Champions League.
And Estevao did not disappoint as his thumping finish found the top-left corner and brought him his first goal in the competition, also giving Chelsea a 4-1 lead at the break.
At 18 years and 181 days, Estevao became Chelsea's youngest-ever scorer in the Champions League, surpassing Marc Guiu's record set earlier in the same match (19 years, 291 days).
And if that wasn't enough, Tyrique George (19y 260d) made it three teenage dreams come true, netting Chelsea's fifth minutes after the restart, making Chelsea the first team in Champions League history to have three teenagers score in a single match. Guiu and George were also scoring their first goals in the competition.
Estevao produced a sizzling display overall. He could've had a hattrick was agonisingly close to scoring a spectacular overhead kick, continuing to show why he is considered a superstar in the making.
Manager Enzo Maresca praised Estevao's attitude after the game.
"With young players most of the time you are a little bit worried. They play one game, two games and score and think they are top players. The good thing about Estevao is we don't need to worry about that," Maresca said.
"It's exciting to see him. The good thing about Estevao he is playing well he is polite, humble, wants to learn. His family have done a big job there. He's a nice boy, a good," he added.
Midfielder Moises Caicedo scored Chelsea's other goal, his fourth of the season, continuing his best scoring run to date. Fernandez, too, is leading by example this season. He is the only Chelsea player involved in 20 goals in 2025 -- 10 goals and 10 assists -- and already has four goals and an assist in the ongoing season.
Chelsea, who have now secured back-to-back wins over Benfica and Ajax after an opening loss to Bayern, moved up to 11th in the Champions League standings.
