Former Australia pacer Jason Gillespie has decided step away from full-time coaching, disheartened by a tumultuous spell with the Pakistan national team that left him questioning his future in the profession.

"Right now, I'm not sure I'm interested in coaching full time," Gillespie admitted on the Wisden Cricket Weekly podcast, revealing how his short-lived tenure in 2024 drained his enthusiasm for the job.

"[Even if Australia come calling] No, I'm not interested," he said.

Gillespie was appointed as Pakistan's red-ball coach in April last year and briefly oversaw the white-ball side after Gary Kirsten's exit. Despite guiding the team to a rare ODI series win in Australia, his time in charge unravelled by December, marred by internal rifts and miscommunication with the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Adding to the disarray was his clash with former pacer Aqib Javed, who replaced him as interim head coach.

"The Pakistan experience has soured my love for coaching, I'll be honest. I'll get it back, I'm sure I will, but that was really a blow," he said.

"It really disappointed me, how that all ended."

While Gillespie has no appetite for the daily grind of international coaching, he hinted at an interest in working in T20 leagues.

"I'm open to coaching in the leagues and some short-term coaching or as a consultant. But as for a full-time coaching role, right now, it's not on my agenda. I've been coaching full time for the best part of 15 years, I just think that it's time I did something else," he said.
