Smriti Mandhana outpaces Kohli, hits golden form before World Cup

A record-breaking decider between India and Australia lit up Delhi on Saturday, with Smriti Mandhana smashing the fastest ODI century ever by an Indian before Beth Mooney's earlier heroics sealed a 43-run win for the visitors.
Mandhana's knock -- the second-fastest in women's ODI history -- also beat Virat Kohli's 52-ball men's ODI record set against Australia in 2013.
Australia, put in to bat, piled up 412 -- their joint-highest ODI total -- thanks to Mooney's 138 and rapid half-centuries from Georgia Voll (81) and Ellyse Perry (68).
In reply, Mandhana lit up the chase with 125 off just 62 balls, reaching her century in 50 deliveries.
India briefly threatened an upset, Mandhana adding 121 with captain Harmanpreet Kaur (52), but her dismissal ended hopes of a record chase. Deepti Sharma's 72 delayed the inevitable as India fell for 369 in 42.5 overs.
The match produced the highest aggregate of runs in women's ODIs, overtaking the 678 between England and South Africa in 2017.
Mandhana finished with 300 runs across the three games and was named Player of the Series. She rejected suggestions of extra pressure before the ICC Women's World Cup. "Everyone is a match-winner… Not just the eleven but all the fifteen who are in the squad. I don't look at anyone that they are adding pressure on me. At any point, we can still win the match, and any player can take us to the win," she said.
India start their campaign on September 30, against co-hosts Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
