Shanaka returns as Sri Lanka captain till T20 World Cup
Sri Lanka Cricket has replaced Charith Asalanka with Dasun Shanaka as T20I captain ahead of the T20 World Cup, with Shanaka set to lead the side until the end of the tournament.
Chief selector Pramodya Wickramasinghe said the decision was taken after discussions with the team management. "We decided that Dasun Shanaka should be captain until the end of the World Cup, after talking to head coach Sanath Jayasuriya as well," he was quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
Wickramasinghe added that the selectors have retained the previously selected 25-member squad for the World Cup. "The previous committee had chosen a list of 25 players and we decided to announce that same 25 as a preliminary squad," he said.
Shanaka, who previously captained Sri Lanka in T20Is, returns to the role as selectors look for experience heading into the global tournament.
Despite losing the captaincy, Asalanka remains part of the squad.
