Moeen questions hype around Pakistan's pace trio

Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has questioned the widespread praise for Pakistan's fast bowling trio of Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf, stating that they do not rank among the best bowling attacks in the current international circuit.
His remarks came in the wake of Pakistan's disappointing performance in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
Moeen shared his candid views on a podcast alongside England leg-spinner Adil Rashid, raising doubts about the high expectations surrounding Pakistan's pace attack.
"There's this perception, especially among people with Pakistani backgrounds, that Pakistan has the best seamers. I'm like, no. They're good, but they're not the best," Moeen said.
He further elaborated, "Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf are good. Don't take me wrong. I am not calling them bad, but they are not the best in the business at the moment."
Pakistan had a tournament to forget, finishing last in Group A after suffering defeats to New Zealand and India, while their match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain, leaving them winless.
The individual performances of their pacers failed to justify their reputation. Shaheen Afridi had an especially poor outing against New Zealand, conceding 68 runs in his 10-over spell without picking up a wicket. Against India, he managed two wickets but leaked 74 runs in just eight overs.
Naseem Shah was similarly expensive, giving away 63 runs for just two wickets against New Zealand, and he went wicketless against India while conceding 37 runs in his eight overs.
Haris Rauf also struggled, going for 83 runs in his full quota against New Zealand while picking up two wickets. Against India, he remained ineffective, conceding 52 runs in seven overs without claiming a wicket.
