Mahmudullah announces retirement from international cricket

Bangladesh veteran Mahmudullah Riyad announced his retirement from international cricket through a Facebook post today.
"All praises only for the Almighty Allah. I have decided to retire from international cricket," a post from Mahmudullah's official Facebook account read.
Mahmudullah had opted out of the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) central contract for January 1-December 31, 2025 on Monday.
Mahmudullah, who scored 11,047 runs in international cricket, had retired from Tests in 2021 and called time on his T20I career last year in October following the Tigers' India tour.
"I would like to thank all of my teammates,coaches & specially my fans who has always supported me. A big thank you to my parents, my in laws specially my father in law & most importantly my brother Emdad Ullah who has been there for me constantly since my childhood as my coach & mentor.
"And finally thanks to my wife & kids who have been my support system through thick & thin.I know raeid will miss me in red & green jersey. Not everything comes to an end in a perfect way but you say yes & move forward. PEACE........... Alhamdulillah. Best wishes to my team & Bangladesh cricket." Mahmudullah wrote.
Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim, who retired from ODIs last week, had been under pressure following their lacklustre Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. Bangladesh failed to win any of the game in the Champions Trophy, with both Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur failing to impress.
