Former Bangladesh captain Faruque Ahmed has returned to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as a director and newly appointed vice-president following Monday's elections.

Representing Rangers Cricket Academy, Faruque secured the highest 42 votes among the councillors before being named one of the board's vice-presidents in the first meeting under re-elected president Aminul Islam Bulbul.

Speaking to the media after assuming his new role, Faruque expressed his desire to move forward rather than dwell on the past.

Faruque was unceremoniously removed from the BCB boss's chair in May this year after being elected following Nazmul Hassan Papon's absence in the wake of the July uprising last year.

"We want to look ahead, not backward. I've been saying repeatedly that we now have a full-fledged board. Our only goal should be to take Bangladesh cricket forward," said the former national team skipper.

Asked why he decided to return despite his difficult past experiences in the board, Faruque responded philosophically, saying, "In life, people face different challenges and difficult times. What matters now is that we focus on the future. The new president had been in charge for three to four months before, and now we have a complete board under his leadership. Hopefully, this board will continue for a long time and work according to a proper plan."

Reiterating his commitment to the board's vision, Faruque added, "The president has said that all of us -- whether we are sitting here or you are sitting there -- want the same thing: for Bangladesh cricket to move forward. There will be challenges along the way, but we must tackle them together."
