Cricketers relay need for fair elections

Quite a few Bangladesh players, past and present, have shown concerns regarding the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections in social media posts.

Current national stars such as Mominul Haque, Taijul Islam, domestic cricketers Mohammad Mithun, Salman Hossain, Irfan Shukkur and former cricketer Shamsur Rahman talked about their desires for fair elections in social media in identically worded posts.

"The things that are happening surrounding the BCB elections are not desired. This is a matter of Bangladesh cricket and its cricketers' future. We want free, fair and unbiased BCB elections," all of them wrote on Facebook this evening.

The BCB election has already been fueled by war of words over transparency. Tamim Iqbal, a potential candidate for presidency, had previously claimed government interference related to BCB elections.

Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and Local Government, Asif Mahmud dismissed the allegations and instead said in an interview that certain quarters were exploiting Tamim to secure their own gains.

The voters' list was a big part of the controversy as many councillors' name was reportedly omitted. The BCB Election Commission too is currently dealing with relevant papers of 15 clubs who may not be allowed to partake in the polls. A hearing on those clubs are due on Thursday.

Amidst these situation, allegations of conspiracies are coming from various quarters. Just like Mominul, the other cricketers also had similar messages as concerns over upcoming elections continue to grow.
