Contributing in three departments is Rishad’s motivating factor

23-year old Rishad Hossain attained the best figure by a Bangladesh spinner in ODIs, bagging six wickets for 35 runs against West Indies in the first ODI on Saturday to get Bangladesh back on winning track in ODIs following a 3-0 thrashing by Afghanistan.

Not just with the ball, Rishad also left his mark with the bat, scoring a 13-ball 26 to help Bangladesh post 207. West Indies had started their innings well but once Rishad got the ball to talk, the Windies innings crumbled to give Bangladesh a 74-run win.

Rishad is one of Bangladesh's more agile fielders, known for taking acrobatic catches or effecting run outs.

Rishad said that he was happy to contribute in any of the departments whether it be bowling, fielding or batting and that it works as a motivating factor to be able to do that.

"Yes obviously [it is a motivating factor]," he said. "As a player, it's better to contribute from all three sides so I try to leave a mark from any of the three departments and give my hundred-and-ten percent."

Asked on what his role was as a batter, he said: "Where I bat, my role is how to score some extra runs which will be good for the team. When you are getting 180, if you can push the score to 210-215, it's good for me. That's what I tried to do and I was able to do it."

Bangladesh appear to have a fixed template when playing on Mirpur with spin playing a major role in recent history. The criticism of the latest wicket in Mirpur comes from the fact that batters usually do not carry rhythm and form when they play on better surfaces, leading to subpar results in ICC events.

When the question was asked whether the team management had any discussions with curator Tony Hemming on what kind of surface the team was preparing for, Rishad denied there was any team discussion relating to the pitches Tigers will get in Mirpur going forward.

"It's not in our hands, whatever the wicket is we have to adjust," he said.
