BCB forms new standing committees, confirms BPL to proceed on schedule

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) completed the first meeting of its newly elected board on Tuesday, following up on the discussions from Monday's session, and announced the standing committees for the new term.

BCB director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu attended the press conference alongside new directors Abdur Razzak and Khaled Masud Pilot, where Mithu informed that the committees have been formed for a temporary period of two months.

"We have formed the committees for two months, and anyone who feels uncomfortable can come forward and discuss with the president," Mithu said.

BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul was named the new chairman of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) governing council, while Iftekhar Rahman Mithu was appointed as the member secretary.

Former board president and current vice-president Faruque Ahmed, however, was not named as chairman of any standing committee.

"Our president has the authority. So normally, in any board, the president decides where to put him. Maybe he was given a choice — that's his matter, he can say. I might think that he wants to use Faruk Bhai as a vice-president in other works. Maybe because he is the president, he didn't want to keep him in any committee. I am actually not aware. But Faruk Bhai is a former captain and former president, he has a lot of inputs to give," Mithu said.

During the briefing, Mithu also confirmed that the upcoming BPL will be held on schedule in its usual December–January window.

"What has happened so far, you know that when Mahbub [Anam] Bhai was the chairman before, he had taken a lot of work forward. So, it is in the final stages with IMG. After finishing this press conference today, I will contact IMG, finalize the agreement with them, and then we will immediately issue the EOI (Expression of Interest) for the teams. That is the main thing," Mithu informed.

Pilot said that the new board and its committees will work collectively to strengthen domestic and grassroots structures.

"There are 25 directors here. This is a team that works together, and the members come from different walks of life. The ideas we discuss do not come only from the departments I oversee — ideas are coming from everywhere.

"I believe, and I hope you will all agree, that I am someone who works very closely with the grassroots. I have always worked at the field level. But we still have not reached the point where we can fully utilize the opportunities that exist for expanding our activities to different districts. These discussions will take place soon," Pilot said.
