Bangladesh suffer heavy defeat to Pakistan, qualification at risk

Bangladesh suffered a crushing seven-wicket defeat against Pakistan in their final game of the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers today in Lahore, putting their hopes of qualifying for the main event in India on shaky ground.

A win against Pakistan, who had already secured their place in the main tournament with a game to spare, could have sealed the deal for the Tigresses. However, a familiar struggle with the bat once again cost them dearly. Bangladesh managed just 178 for nine in their allotted 50 overs, a total that never looked enough on a track at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground.

Pakistan, led by a composed batting display, comfortably chased down the target, reaching 181 for three in just 39.4 overs to hand Bangladesh a sobering defeat.

This loss came hot on the heels of their disappointing three-wicket defeat to West Indies on Thursday, a match that had already complicated the qualification equation. Despite three straight wins earlier in the qualifiers, the consecutive defeats have thrown Bangladesh's campaign into uncertainty.

While the Tigresses still have a glimmer of hope due to their superior net run-rate, the situation became more tense as West Indies made a strong push in their last group match against Thailand. The Caribbean side needed a massive win to leapfrog Bangladesh in the standings and appeared on course, having reduced Thailand to 92 for six in just 28 overs.

Now, Bangladesh must anxiously await the final result of that match, with their World Cup dreams hanging by a thread. From early promise to late drama, the road to India has taken a nerve-wracking turn for the Tigresses.
