Bangladesh in disarray as Day 1 belongs to Zimbabwe

After the abysmal performance with the bat, the bowlers also let down Bangladesh as Zimbabwe reached 67-0 at stumps on Day 1 of the first Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.

Opener Brian Bennet raced to 40 off 37 balls with six fours while his partner Ben Curran remained unbeaten on 17 as Zimbabwe ended a picture-perfect day for them, trailing the hosts by 124 runs.

The much-hyped Bangladeshi pace attack could hardly test the openers as they scored over 4.5 runs per over before bad light caused an early end to the day's play.

Earlier in the session, Bangladesh lost their remaining three wickets to be bundled out for a mere 191 in their first innings.

After a steady opening session, where they reached 84-2, Bangladesh lost the plot in the second session, losing five wickets to go into Tea on 154-7, and could add another 37 runs in the final session before getting all out.

Wellington Masakadza and Blessing Muzarabani were the pick of the bowlers for Zimbabwe, both claiming three wickets each while Victor Nyauchi and Wessly Madhever shared the remaining four wickets between them.

For Bangladesh, Mominul Haque top scored with 56 and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto made 40, but both were guilty of throwing away their wickets cheaply, and the other batters could not put up any resistance.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first.
