Former Pakistan captain Basil Ali called India the clear "favourites" against Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, while also throwing shade at his country's struggling economy.

After a rough start, losing their opener to New Zealand, Pakistan now face a do-or-die situation, needing to win their last two group games to secure a spot in the semifinals.

Previewing the much-anticipated showdown, Basit said on his YouTube channel, "If Pakistan loses badly to India, fans won't be smashing their TV sets this time because the economic situation is tough. Now, all we'll hear is opinions."

He didn't hold back, acknowledging, "India are favourites. There's no doubt about that. If Pakistan pulls off a win, it will be a major upset since our cricket is at an all-time low."

Basit, who had hit two centuries and 14 fifties in 69 international fixtures, also slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for having focused on making a statement as the host nation rather than building a strong team for the tournament.
