BCB to bring experts to assess suspect actions

Jalal Yunus, chairman of Bangladesh Cricket Board's bowling action review committee, said yesterday that they would bring experts from the Cardiff Metropolitan University, one of ICC's accredited testing centres for suspect bowling actions, to help them assess the bowling actions of the suspect bowlers in Bangladesh.

The review committee, which was formed during the board meeting last week, will assess the suspected bowling actions of at least 13 bowlers who were reported during the recently concluded Dhaka Premier League.

"We have a meeting on Tuesday to decide the committee's procedure. At least 13 to 14 bowlers have been reported during this Dhaka Premier League. We will start working with them after Eid. We will assess their bowling actions in the nets and if we find a deviation in their bowling actions through the naked eye and cameras, we will have to rectify them.

"Afterwards, if we see the correction is consistent, they can play in next year's league. If they are reported again, they will be banned for a year. We will work with bowlers in the National Cricket League, Bangladesh Cricket League, Bangladesh Premier League, the Dhaka Premier League, Dhaka first division and second division and age-group," said Yunus adding that they are in touch with the ICC for technological assistance.

He also said that building a lab within ICC's protocol would be very expensive and that they want to start with minimum costs.

He also informed that the actions of Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny, who have been banned from international cricket for illegal bowling actions, would be assessed by the Bangladesh's coaching staff as the bowlers are not within their jurisdiction.
