Jamaica win in Shakib’s off-day
Shakib Al Hasan had a brilliant outing during Jamaica Tallawahs last game – however he had an off colour day with the bat and ball against Tribago Knight Riders. However, Shakib’s performance did not stop Jamaica as they picked up a four wicket win against Trinbago.
The match could have been a duel between two Bangladesh players Shakib and Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who is with Trinbago franchise.
However, Mehedi wasn’t picked for the game by Trinbago. Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and sent Trinbago into bat. Openers Brendon McCullum and Sunil Narine started the innings with a blast and at one point it almost seemed like Sangakkara had made the wrong decision.
McCullum fell in the third over and Narine was removed in the fifth over but Colin Munro’s quickfire 25 ball-41 saw Trinbago reach 102 in just eight overs.
Jamaica got back into the game through the effort of Kesrick Williams and Odean Smith who both picked up three wickets. Tribago were restricted to 147 all out from 19.5 overs.
Shakib bowled only one over but went for 12 runs. Mohammed Sami bowled his 4 overs for 22 runs and picked up one wicket.
Jamaica started the chase in fiery fashion – openers Sangakkara and Lendl Simmons picked up 61 runs in just 5.2 overs before Simmons walked back to the pavilion.
Simmons scoered an 18-ball 38 but at the other end Sangakkara steadied the Jamaica innings. Shakib came into bat in the 11th over and scored 16 runs from 22 balls. Jamaica hitched a little when they lost Sangakkara in the 16th and Shakib Al Hasan in the 17th overs. However, some lusty hits from Jonathan Foo saw Jamica win with four balls to spare.
