RCC polls: AL mayoral candidate ahead in 86 centres of 155
AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, the Awami League-backed mayoral candidate in the Rajshahi City Corporation elections, is leading in 86 of the total 155 centres, according to unofficial reports.
The counting began at the Rajshahi Shilpakala Academy at 4:00pm after the voting ended.
Till 6:25pm, Liton bagged 85,778 votes in 86 polling centres, while Jatiya Party candidate Saiful Islam Swapan got 5,442 votes, reports our staff correspondent quoting unofficial sources.
On the other hand, mayoral candidate Latif Anwar the from the Jaker Party bagged 6,842 votes while Murshid Alam from Islami Andolan Bangladesh got 7,716 votes in the same number of centres.
There are 351,982 voters in the Rajshahi City Corporation.
A total of four candidates are vying for the mayoral post, 111 for councilor posts in 30 general words, and 46 for the post of 10 reserved seats for councilors.
The election was held through Electronic Voting Machines.
