All govt bodies committed 'digital cheating' in BCC polls: Tapos
Iqbal Hossain Tapos, Jatiya Party mayoral candidate in yesterday's Barishal City Corporation (BCC) election, today claimed that all the government bodies, including the Election Commission, committed "digital cheating" in the election.
"The election result was determined before," Tapos alleged while addressing reporters at his election office a day after he was defeated in the Barishal city polls.
"As I always talked against them [government], they kept me in fourth position. They announced the voting result targeting me," he said.
"I am sorry that I failed to protect your voting rights," Tapos said addressing city people.
He condemned the election-day attack on Islami Andolon Bangladesh's mayoral candidate and demanded exemplary punishment for the attackers.
During the city election, Tapos got 6,665 votes. With 7,999 votes, independent candidate Kamrul Ahsan was in the third position.
AL mayoral candidate Abul Khair Abdullah was elected mayor defeating his nearest candidate Mufti Syed Faizul Karim of IAB.
There were 2,76,298 voters in the city, and the turnout was 51.46 percent.
