'Universities will decide if they will allow politics on campus'
Education Minister Dipu Moni today said universities will decide whether they will allow organisation-based student politics on university campuses or not.
''The universities which operate under the 1973 ordinance, will take the decision according to the ordinance and those that run under their own laws and regulations will decide on whether to ban organisation-based politics according to that,'' Dipu Moni said.
The lawmaker elected from the Chandpur-3 constituency made the comment at the circuit house in the district this morning in reply to a query by journalists regarding the murder of Buet student Abrar Fahad.
The misuse of power and bad politics is likely to be blamed for the incident at Buet, Dipu Moni further added.
She also emphasised on the need for more awareness among people to ensure that politics is practiced in a healthy manner.
Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of Buet, died after he was brutally beaten allegedly by some BCL men at a room of the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall.
Amid student protest following the murder, the Buet authorities yesterday banned all political activities on the campus and suspended 19 students, mostly leaders of the university’s BCL unit, accused in Abrar Fahad killing case.
