Pre-poll violence: 5 held over Kushtia AL man killing
Police detained five activists of Awami League in connection with the killing of another activist in a pre-poll violence in Kushtia Sadar upazila yesterday.
Masud Karim alias Latu Molla, 55, was killed in a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates contesting the upcoming fourth phase union parishad (UP) elections at Dahkula village in Alampur union.
Later on the night, Masud’s younger brother Mahbubul Karim filed a case with Kushtia Model Police station accusing 21 people, including AL-nominated candidate Akteruzzaman, also general secretary of Kushtia Sadar upazila unit of AL.
All the arrestees, Shahinur Rahman, Masudul Haq, Oliur Rahman, Ashraful Islam and Uzzal Hossain, were accused in the case, Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-charge Md Sahabuddin told our correspondent.
According to the family members of Masud, he recently came home from Kuwait after 13-years and started a fish hatchery at his village.
