Khulna city polls: BNP demands army deployment
BNP today demanded army deployment in Khulna City Corporation ahead of Khulna City Corporation elections to facilitate fair and free polls.
"To ensure the people's right to vote, army must be deployed here immediately," Nazrul Islam Monju, BNP mayoral aspirant in the upcoming KCC polls, said at a press briefing this morning.
Many central and local BNP leaders including BNP standing committee member Gayeswar Chandra Roy were present at the press briefing, among others, our Khulna correspondent reports.
Apart from demanding army deployment, the BNP leaders also alleged that the Election Commission and the administration are working in favour of the government to elect the Awami League mayoral candidate.
The party leaders are being detained without any criminal cases against them, Gayeswar Chandra Roy claimed.
The government wants to elect the Al candidate by any means possible whether people can vote or not, he said.
The elections to Khulna City Corporation will be held on May 15.
