BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today described the issue of militancy in Bangladesh as mystery alleging that the government wants to use the issue for its political gain.

“Police and Rapid Action Battalion are dishing out contradictory comments over militancy while the government is using the issue for its political gain,” Fakhrul said.

In most of the cases, the detained militants are being killed. So the mystery remains: Mirza Fakhrul

He came up with the remarks after paying tributes to the grave of Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka. Earlier, Fakhrul along with leaders of the newly formed committee of Narayanganj district unit BNP went to the grave to pay their respects to the party founder.

Responding to a query over a raid at a militant den in Chittagong’s Sitakunda, he said a group of vested quarter is working for emergence of militancy in the country.

Claiming that the militancy issue is not being investigated properly, Fakhrul said the militants, who have so far been arrested, are not being put in the dock for justice.

“In most of the cases, the detained militants are being killed. So the mystery remains,” he said.
