Gonoforum's lawmaker Mokabbir Khan (Sylhet-2) was sworn in today, following the footsteps of Sultan Mohammad Mansur.

He took his oath around 12noon at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

In response to a letter sent by Mokabbir to Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday, an arrangement was made for him to take oath today at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

In the letter, the MP said that with his party's consent, he has decided to take oath either on April 2 or 3.

On March 7, Sultan Mohammad Mansur (Moulvibazar-2) took oath as a member of the 11th parliament.

Earlier on March 3, the two Gonoforum MP-elects -- Mokabbir  and Mansur -- sent separate letters to the Speaker, requesting her to arrange their oath-taking ceremony on March 7. However, Mokabbir did not take oath on that day.

BNP along with Gonoforum and some other parties formed an alliance and took part in the national election under the banner of Jatiya Oikyafront. BNP bagged six seats while Gonoforum got two.

The alliance turned down the election results alleging “massive vote robbery” and decided not to join parliament.

Gonoforum expelled Sultan Mansur hours after he joined parliament.
