BNP warns of tougher movement
BNP Standing Committee Member Moudud Ahmed today warned that his party will wage a harsher street movement at an appropriate time to topple the Awami League government from power.
"We will announce tough agitation programmes at an appropriate time to press home our demands," Moudud said while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka this noon.
Taking a u-tern from the peaceful programmes, Moudud asked his party leaders and activists to keep endurance and called upon them to be prepared for making the movement a success.
BNP did not take part in the January 5, 2014 general election as it was not held under the management of a nonparty caretaker government.
Protesting the election, BNP waged an indefinite hartal and agitation programme across the country but its efforts went in vain.
Later, BNP also observed hartal for 90 days to meet its one-point demand to oust the government but it also failed to bring any result for the party except for the loss of many lives in arson attacks across the country.
Taking a lesson from the subversive movement, BNP has been engaged in carrying out demonstrations in a peaceful manner demanding unconditional release of the party chief Khaleda Zia, now in Old central jail in Dhaka for Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Citing reasons for backpedaling to the path of violent agitation, Moudud said, "It’s tough to oust a fascist and autocratic ruler through a disciplined movement."
Amend constitution for restoring CG system
Moudud also urged the government to bring another amendment to the constitution to pave the path of holding the next general election under a nonparty caretaker government.
"Constitution is not above the people," Moudud also a former law minister said.
Stop killing in the name of anti-narcotic drives
Calling upon the government to stop the ongoing nationwide anti-narcotic crackdown, Moudud said many innocent people have met their tragic end of lives in the so called “gunfight”.
Take Khaleda to a specialised hospital
Expressing grave concerns over the deteriorating health condition of Khaleda Zia, Moudud urged the authorities concerned to shift her to a specialised hospital for better treatment.
