20-party to meet Saturday
Leaders of BNP-led 20-party alliance will sit in a meeting to discuss latest political development this Saturday.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement at a press briefing held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office this morning.
He said, the meeting will discuss the country’s prevailing political situation and device the next course of action to press for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release.
The meeting call comes a day after BNP met foreign diplomats deputed in Bangladesh and discussed similar issues, namely, “how democracy is endangered in Bangladesh”.
Up until now, BNP and its allies have been carrying out peaceful protest programmes, aimed at engaging with the mass public, and drum for demand of Khaleda Zia’s release.
And, on multiple occasions, the party has been denied to hold rallies and their peaceful programmes foiled by the government authorities and police.
Now, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, convicted of Tk 2.10 crore graft in Zia Orphanage graft case, has been behind bars since February 9 last month. Prospects are bleak that she will have the chance to walk out on bail before May.
