Sports adviser cited internal BCB–ICC security communication: BCB clarifies

By Sports Reporter

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday clarified remarks made by sports adviser Asif Nazrul, stating that the communication referenced by the adviser was an internal exchange between the BCB and the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) security department.

Earlier in the day, the sports adviser had said that it would be impossible for the Bangladesh team to visit India for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after receiving a letter from the ICC’s security team.

In a press release, the BCB addressed reports surrounding the matter, emphasising that the correspondence mentioned was not a formal response from the ICC regarding the board’s request to relocate Bangladesh’s World Cup matches from India.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to clarify reports regarding recent references to communication from the International Cricket Council (ICC) concerning the Bangladesh national team and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026,” the BCB said in a press release today.

The board further explained that the communication cited by the sports adviser related solely to internal security assessments.

“The correspondence cited today by the Adviser for the Ministry of Youth & Sports was in reference to an internal communication between the BCB and the ICC’s Security Department related to threat assessments for the Bangladesh team ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This does not constitute a formal response from the ICC to the BCB’s request for the relocation of Bangladesh’s matches outside India,” the press release further read.

The BCB added that it is still awaiting the ICC’s official response to its request regarding security concerns in India.

“The BCB reiterates that it has formally raised concerns regarding venue arrangements and has requested relocation of Bangladesh’s matches outside India in the interest of the team’s security. The Board confirms that it is still awaiting an official response from the ICC on this matter,” the press release read.
