One arrested for 'harassing women, passing derogatory remarks' in Savar

Police today arrested a man in Savar for allegedly harassing women by making obscene gestures and derogatory remarks on social media.
Mohammad Khalid Mahmud, also known as Hridoy Khan, was arrested from Aminbazar around 4:00pm today, said police.
According to a press release issued by Dhaka District Police, videos circulating on Facebook showed Khalid Mahmud, pretending to be a mentally challenged person, made offensive comments about women who do not wear hijab.
He shared the videos online, spreading derogatory messages that insulted women in society, it said.
In the video, he went as far as stating that women who do not wear hijab would be raped, and made similar such inappropriate comments about women in general.
His remarks also targeted young girls.
Legal action is being taken against him for creating unrest in the society and attempting to disrupt communal harmony, police said.
