Gold prices hit a new record today in the domestic market, crossing Tk 230,000 per bhori for the first time, after fluctuating below the mark for nearly two weeks.

On December 29, gold prices broke the previous record and hit Tk 229,431 per bhori, or 11.664 grammes.

Today, the popular metal will be traded at Tk 232,055 per bhori in the local market, said the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) while hiking the price.

Jewellers sold gold at Tk 227,856 per bhori for two days from January 11. This means the new price is 1.84 percent, or Tk 4,200, higher than yesterday.

Bajus announced the new rate yesterday, citing an increase in the prices of pure gold.
