Low over Bay: Signal No 3 at four seaports, rain likely for two more days
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today advised the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3 following the formation of a low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal.
The low-pressure area formed over the Northwest Bay and the adjoining North Odisha-West Bengal coastal areas.
Under its influence, squally weather may affect the maritime ports, the North Bay and the adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh, according to a forecast issued this morning by BMD meteorologist Md Omar Faruq.
The met office advised all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Bay to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Speaking to The Daily Star, meteorologist Dr Bazlur Rashid said the system is unlikely to intensify into a depression.
"Under its influence, rainfall may continue for another one or two days, after which the intensity of precipitation is expected to decrease," he said.
