3 sent to jail over banned Chhatra League procession in Jhenaidah
A Jhenaidah court today sent three individuals to jail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, following a procession allegedly brought out by activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League in Jhenaidah town early Monday.
The accused who were sent to jail are Jhenaidah district Jubo League member Mehedi Hasan Sohel, 35, Chhatra League activist Niloy Farhan Dighal, 20, and Ashik, 22, said Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of the police station.
They were arrested from different parts of the district on Monday night after Rajib Ali, a sub-inspector of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, filed the case against 24 local leaders and activists of Chhatra League and Jubo League in connection with the procession, said the OC.
Jhenaidah district Chhatra League President Sajib Hossain and General Secretary Al Emran are among the accused.
The case also names 10 to 15 unidentified individuals, the OC said.
The three arrestees were produced before a court today, which sent them to jail, he added.
Police drives are continuing to arrest the remaining accused, said the OC.
