9 Jamaat men held from ‘secret meeting’ in Comilla
Police in a drive arrested at least nine leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from a secret meeting in Chouddagram upazila of Comilla district on Saturday afternoon.
The arrestees were identified as Akhteruzzaman, 63, son of late Altaf Ali, Delwar Hossain, 35, son of Anu Mia, Motahar Hossain, 35, and Jamal Uddin, 40, sons of Ansar Ali, Anisul Haque, 58, son of late Bazlur Rahman, Fazar Ali, 70, son of Fazle Ali, Abdul Hai, 35, son of Abdul Motin, Rubel, 36, son of Alam Bhuyan and Kabir Hossain, 34, son of Liakat Ali, all of different villages in the upazila.
A case was filed with Chouddagram Police Station under Special Powers Act in this connection, police said.
On information, a team of police conducted a drive in the upazila while the Jamaat activists were conducting a secret meeting and arrested them.
Two police personnel were injured during the drive as the activists threw stones at the police. The team also seized a private care from the spot, police said.
