Eid rush: 20km tailback near Bangabandhu Bridge on Dhaka-Tangail highway
Increased number of vehicles on the Tangail-Sirajganj route has created long tailbacks near Bangabandhu Bridge on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The tailback extended about 20 km from the eastern end of Bangabandhu Bridge to Rabna Bypass in Tangail this morning (July 7, 2022). Home bound people were stuck for long hours on the road, reports our local correspondent.
Ataur Rahman, in-charge of Elenga Highway Police said, "Traffic congestion was caused by vehicle breakdowns and minor accidents at some places on the bridge's eastern link road from 3am. Movement resumed later when those vehicles were moved from the highway."
"The vehicular movement will become normal as time advances, the police official said around 7:30am.
However, at 8am this morning hundreds of stationed vehicles were seen on the highway.
According to the highway police, around 116 routes of 26 districts ply through the Tangail highway, known as the gateway to the north.
