Protests were held outside Bangladeshi missions in several Indian cities today, with demonstrators citing alleged violence against minorities in Bangladesh following the killing of a garment worker in Mymensingh, reports Indian newspaper The Hindu.

In New Delhi, hundreds of activists from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal gathered near the Bangladesh High Commission. Security had been tightened in the area ahead of the protest, according to The Hindu.

Some demonstrators rushed towards police barricades, creating brief disruption, though authorities prevented them from reaching the mission premises, said the newspaper.

The protests were organised following the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a garment worker who was beaten to death and set on fire in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh on December 18 over allegations of "hurting religious sentiments".

In Hyderabad, several Hindu organisations led by the VHP staged a protest in the Kothapet area, condemning what they described as violence against minorities in Bangladesh.

In Kolkata, hundreds of protesters carrying saffron flags attempted to march towards the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, alleging attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

The procession, organised under the banner of "Bongiyo Hindu Jagaran", began at Sealdah but was stopped by police in Beckbagan. A large police presence was deployed near the deputy high commission to prevent any breach of security.

Separately, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association held a protest condemning the killing of Dipu in Bangladesh.

According to The Hindu, the lawyers urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure the protection of Hindus in Bangladesh and also demanded the eviction of illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas from Jammu.
