Students of Jahangirnagar University formed a human chain demanding justice for the murder of Sharmin Jahan, a fourth-year student of the university's Department of Public Administration.

The human chain and protest march were organised in front of the university's Shaheed Minar under the banner of Jahangirnagar University Research Shongshad around 2:00pm.

Students demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible through a fair and impartial investigation. They warned that if the trial is not completed quickly, they would surround the university administrative building and local police stations.

Sohagi Samia, organiser of the Socialist Students' Front (JU unit), said, "Sharmin had been brutally murdered in her home. We strongly condemn and protest this murder. We demand exemplary punishment for those responsible through an impartial and fair investigation."

Jucsu Vice-President Abdur Rashid Jitu said Sharmin Jahan had been deliberately killed.

"Her head was crushed, and there were injury marks on her body. This human chain and protest march have been organised to ensure exemplary punishment for the culprits," he said.

Sharmin Jahan was found at home in Islamnagar area around 4:30pm yesterday in a bloodied and unconscious condition and was taken to Enam Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Sharmin's uncle, Monirul Islam, filed a case with Ashulia Police Station last night, naming Sharmin's husband Fahim Al Hasan as the main accused along with several unidentified individuals.

Fahim was arrested in connection with the case and produced before the court today with a prayer for a five-day remand. The court fixed the remand hearing for March 24 and ordered that Fahim be sent to jail.
