“May Eid inspire us to work towards collective well-being”, Modi tweets
India's President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu have greeted fellow citizens on the occasion of Eid-uz-Adha.
In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said: "Eid Mubarak! Greetings on Eid-ul-Adha. May this festival inspire us to work towards furthering the spirit of collective well-being and prosperity for the good of human kind."
In his message, the president said, "On the occasion of Eid-uz-Zuha, I extend my greetings to all the fellow citizens, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters."
He said the festival of Eid "is a symbol of sacrifice and service to the humanity and it inspires us to follow the path of self-sacrifice shown by Hazrat Ibrahim."
"On this occasion, let us resolve to rededicate ourselves to the service of mankind and work for the prosperity and development of the nation," Kovind said, our New Delhi correspondent reports.
Naidu said Eid-ul-Adha "epitomises the spirit of sacrifice and devotion to God. It is an occasion to 'share & care' and show compassion towards the needy and poor. I hope the festival will strengthen the spirit of unity and brotherhood in society by bringing people closer to one another."
